Loving. This. Hair.
Have you been to Berlin? Wow, what a city. This weekend I was super impressed with the numbers of cyclists their chic style.
Though the cities are very different, Berliners and Amsterdammers have quite a lot in common when it comes to cycling, also a few new things to learn! So if you’re in Berlin, here’s how to cycle chic. Check it out:
PS. Berlin has their own cycle chic blog, check them out here!
With all this rain, I’m already reminiscing the lovely sunshine we had only a few days ago. People were out and about, laughing with friends, and drinking beers on the terraces. And of course, riding their bikes too.
Is the summer really over now? Do we have anymore 2o-degree days left? Until then, reminisce with me…
On one of the few ‘hills’ in Amsterdam, I watched this girl breeze down the Ceintuurbaan bridge. The wind blowing through her hair. No pedaling required. Just calm and content. And not to mention a rockin’ outfit! Super chic.
Constructing your own bicycle out of old parts? That’s something Niels Gomperts loves to do, as his two striking, circus-like bicycles illustrate. Actually, Niels is a selfmade handyman who can fix and construct almost anything. And with artists’ blood flowing through his veins, all his creations have an artistic touch.
His beautiful home in the heart of Amsterdam, which seems to be an ongoing creative construction site, represents his bohemian lifestyle. In front of his house, his two bicycles are parked on a bridge.
Cycling all the way to Poland Niels and his friends made a pit stop in Berlin, where they visited a friend with a very colourful collection of bicycles. Returning home Niels couldn’t wait to get started on his own. For both bicycles he used old bicycle-parts, and for the steering wheel of the ‘low-rider’ he ‘borrowed’ his grandmothers walking frame. Nice touch!
Though he doesn’t ride them daily, he does take them out to cruise through the Vondelpark – sometimes accompanied by a sound installation – or go to a cafe. Of course he fell of a number of times, but hey, that’s the best way to learn. Now he can handle just about any moving vehicle.
Niels isn’t just a skilled handyman, he is also an actor and appears on Dutch television and in several movies. He acted in the movies Lena and Shocking Blue, but he is probably best known for his role in Penoza, a fantastic television show about a Dutch mafia family. So Niels is definitely a talented and remarkable individual. If you keep an eye out, you might see him cruising around town with his head in the clouds.
Did you see the Pride parade on the canals this Saturday? Those boats were incredible! In between the fabulous drag shows, feathered boas, winged costumes, glitter and glam–some people managed to keep their pants on this weekend at Amsterdam Pride. And when they did, it was nothing but pink!
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city…
The green spectrum seems to be the ideal summer color this time of year. In a matter of a couple minutes, I spotted 3 lovely ladies donning the color in style–and on their bikes of course! So, yes, go out and enjoy this weather! Hopefully it’ll stick around a while…
This weather calls for nothing less than short shorts and sun dresses–and picnics, bbqs, and lots of smiles. We’ve waited a long time for this, haven’t we people?!
So, go get those itsy-bitsy frocks out, dust them off, and put them to good use!
I love all the bright colors out on the streets these days. Great weather to complement the colors, too. Can’t complain!
Same bridge, same bike, same sun … bu different cycle chicsters!
Boots and shorts–great combo for this summer weather. Don’t forget your poncho too! With the few minutes of sunshine in between the down-pours, sometimes it’s nice to take your bike for a walk. Slow down, look around, enjoy, and repeat!
Is camouflage a thing now? I’m seeing it all over the streets. This brunette pulls it off easily on her — wait, is that a KLM cruiser? Complete with bike rack? That’s pretty sweet. How did she get a hold of that ? Hmmmm.
I have a red bike, so I’m always on the look-out for fellow red-bike-lovers. These three hip ladies all look spring-tastic on their red bikes! Listening to music, sporting the bright green bike bell and yellow pants, thigh-highs, skirts and heels–nice. Keep riding those red bikes!
Yesterday was a whirlwind of parties all over the city and what was the best way to get there? By bike of course. How did you flaunt your flair on your bike? Here are six ways some Amsterdammers showed their orange pride.
There’s so much going on here. First of all, the mohawk. (No, it wasn’t just the wind). Awesome! Then the Louis bag. Classy. Bright blue jeans? Totally hot. Old school Nike’s. Yes, love it. Slick wheels–obvi. Should I expect anything less in the 9 Streets?!
I don’t think so.
Now that’s a flirty Sunday.
Aude is right! More fur is just what doctor ordered for these chilly winter days. I’m seeing so much fur around the city, aren’t you? Fur hoods, fur hats, fur scarves, fur mitts, fur boots–it’s everywhere! But it’s best worn by bike.
Being cool while remaining warm is possible thanks to the perfect combination of fur coat and scarf!
This young man is pretty styled out with his red hot wheels, red bicycle chain and even red lock! If you look carefully, you can see he is carrying a Vans shopping bag. This reminds me of the cool guy I photographed a few months ago. As you can see below, he wore red Vans and was cycling on a white fixies.
So, Fixies and Vans seem to be the perfect match, right?
Little smile but large shopping bag, this girl is cycling back from town with just the ingredients you need to begin the week-eeeeeeend!
Any new year’s resolutions out there? I’m still deciding between “learn Dutch” and “watch 80 movies from the 80s.” Tough choice. But in the meantime, what a fabulous winter day today. Or is this winter? The sun and 10-degree weather confuses my winter hibernation mode. Maybe the Dutch weather made a new year’s resolution: be more sunny and cheerful!
Ok, Friday was the darkest and shortest day of the year–it’s looking up from here on out! Nothing better to brighten up your day with a little leg! Add some hi-tops and a Dutch bike, so chic. ♥
